By world of the wise

A curriculum vita (CV) provides an overview of a person's experience and other qualifications .While applying for a job in any organization a CV is attached to other academic documents. CVs are at times used to seek employment by submitting them to companies even with out other documents.

Many job seekers post several CV’s with no positive results, they thus remain unemployed because of the deadly sins below.

1. Lying

Many people are tempted to lie on their CVs especially when they imagine that the information will make them seem qualified and perfect for the job. The problem is that many candidates fail to prove this experience during interviews and they lose out on good jobs

2. Long CVs

Another CV sin is including a lot of irrelevant information on the CV .Even with a lot of experience from many organizations, while writing a CV all this information should be organized in a simple, concise and clear way to the recruiter to understand.

Long and boring CV‘s are at times not read. This is a disadvantage to the applicant because his or her skills and experience is considered against that of other candidates.

3. Having grammatical errors or mistakes

A CV introduces a candidate to the hiring manager or employer. A CV with grammatical errors gives a bad impression .It is also a sign of unseriousness since one is considered too lazy to spare some time to edit a small document like a CV.

4. Indicating religious or political affiliations

Almost all human individuals have their own religious or parties they belong to, however indicating it on your CV may make you fail to get a job, though on the other hand may be an opportunity. It is always better not to indicate your religion or party unless that particular organization specified that candidates of that religion should apply.

5. Giving contradicting information

This shows recruiting managers that all the information may be forged .With contradicting information one loses trust even if he or she gets an opportunity of being invited for an interview.

6. Adding a picture on your CV

For jobs like acting, TV presenting modeling or jobs for security positions sending attaching a picture may be okay .For other jobs sending a picture along side your CV puts off employers. Only relevant academic documents or certificates should be sent with a CV.

7. Enclosing the CV in a dirty envelope

Some CVs fail because of being enclosed in dirty envelopes. A dirty envelope makes an employer biased .Since the CV gives a first impression about the candidate; it has to be in a clean envelope.

8. Using an invisible font

At times job seekers are tempted to use font size 10 8 or nine such that a lot of information can fit of two pages or three. This is a great mistake because no one can give you the job if he or she can not read your CV .The good font size to use is 12.

9. Using wrong references

The importance of including references on a CV is to enable recruiters get more information about the job applicant .However if referees on your CV can not be reached or they do not know you, it is also a great sin.
