Cancer begins when cells in a part of the body start to grow out of control. There are many kinds of cancer, but they all start because of out-of-control growth of abnormal cells.

Because cancer cells continue to grow and divide, they are different from normal cells. Instead of dying, cancer cells outlive normal cells and keep forming new abnormal cells. Another difference between cancer cells and normal cells is that cancer cells can invade (grow into) other tissues. Being able to grow out of control and to invade other tissues makes a cell a cancer cell.

Thinking about cancer is something most of us would rather avoid, but today we know that paying attention to our cancer risk can yield real dividends. Scientists now estimate that if everyone ate a healthy diet, was physically active every day and maintained a healthy weight, the number of cancer cases would be reduced by about one-third.

Although scientists have only recently begun to understand the causes and growth of cancer, there exists a large and growing body of evidence showing that daily choices about diet, physical activity and weight management play a major role in cancer risk.

There are many types of cancer which include; Skin cancer, Lung cancer, Bladder cancer, Brain Cancer, Colon cancer, Breast cancer and Kidney cancer. The list is actually long and each cancer type name is associated to the place where that particular cancer resides.

But no matter where a cancer may spread, it is always named for the place where it started. For example, breast cancer that has spread to the liver is still called breast cancer, not liver cancer. Prostate cancer that has spread to the bone is metastatic prostate cancer, not bone cancer.

It is true that cancer is a hard disease to deal with but it is never the end of the road for the patients, cancer, if detected early enough can be can be curable.
