Will Locals profits from the Oil?

Uganda has finally stared drilling oil from the Albertine region but very few people in Uganda might be aware of the harsh times to come due to the oil being drilled in their country. There is country wide joy over the development but few are looking at the negative side of the coin.

Oil or the black gold as it known by many has been the cause of suffering for so many people all over the world.  The first negative effect of Oil discovery and exploitation can be the Dutch Disease, where too much money might enter the county in a small time to pave way for inflation and poverty.

Oil has also been a major factor in promoting dictatorship in many countries where leaders do not wish to leave power just to enjoy the “oil money”. In many countries where oil is being drilled the natives have remained poor while the oil companies and the influential government workers run away with bags full of money.

There is also little doubt that oil has been the cause of wars in so many countries of Africa including Nigeria and Angola. There are always nations and people whop gain from wars yet the natives have to lose their lives.  Uganda has had a number of wars before and many really hope that no oil war should be witnessed in this tiny east African nation.

It is really good to know that very many people in Uganda will get jobs from the new oil industry but it should also be remembered that many other things like the economy, political life, and environment will also have to change, positively

Oil exploration will lead to Oil Jobs

The people in Nigeria were at first so happy when they discovered oil in there home land, but now, many of those from the oil field areas are crying foul for their environment. When the oil spills began and the natives realized that they could no longer have the same agriculture produce like before, many knew that bad times had come.  It is true that the government and its official have realized a lot from the Oil profits, but the common man has only seen suffering. I believe that such a scenario will appear in Uganda if nothing is done to avoid the Nigeria experience.

The people of the Gulf of Mexico can also tell you that some times, oil can really be a curse, after the great oil spill into the waters which have for long been the source of income for many; hard times had to set in. It will take some time before the water is fully cleaned and for the fish to be restored.

There are already complaints in Uganda where the natives claim that rich men from Kampala, the capital city are grabbing their communal land. It looks like Oil has already become a curse for them.  One bad thing about oil is that it has a bad record of causing wars and occupation. We still have to hold on to see where the oil jobs, oil profits and the oil effects will turn the tiny East African nation of Uganda

I thought people in Western Countries do not like leaders who do not want to let go of power
