They use a variety of office equipment, such as fax machines, photocopiers, scanners, and videoconferencing and telephone systems. Flexibility and reliability
An administrative assistant is at times faced with situations where he or she has to work beyond the normal hours or tasks like other employers .The job also calls for making immediate wise decisions in urgent situations just like a senior manager would do.
Good managerial /organizational skills
Administrative assistants must be able to keep organizational equipment in order; all documents must be handled with care and made available in case they are needed by the managers. If tasked to organize meetings an administrative assistant should ensure that there are no delays or postponement of programs.
Keep the company’s secrets
Although this job gives one an opportunity to know almost all the deals, plans and programs of the company, this does not mean that everything should be made known to other people for instance employers. Gossipers can not succeed with this job.
A positive attitude
Since one is faced with handling different personalities at the organisation ranging from mangers, customers or clients and visitors one must be able to maintain a positive attitude. With a negative attitude it can be hard to satisfy the different personalities one is face with on a daily basis. On top of maintaining a positive attitude, one must be tolerant and able to interface with individuals at all levels in and outside an organisation.
